EID Group’s Research and Development activities are hosted in the Laboratory for Emerging Infectious Diseases (LEID) at the Faculty of Science,
LEID has been supporting the diagnostic needs of the Ministry of Public Health and has been a frontliner in COVID-19 real-time PCR testing and control. University of Buea, Buea, Cameroon.
LEID is a vibrant hub for research into emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases especially targeting antibiotic resistant organisms like MRSA, VRE. Postgraduate and epidemiological research carried out at LEID has led to many publications in peer-review journals. For over 15 years, our key focus area has been on surveillance and controlling the spread of emerging infectious diseases, including influenza, cholera, Covid-19, multidrug resistant bacteria, transboundary animal diseases like the Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever, Rift Vally Fever and African Swine Flu.
